FAQ: Goodreads Author Program

A couple of my clients have asked me in the past for some help setting up their author profile on Goodread’s so I thought I would write a post about how you can go about this.

What is the Goodreads Author Program?

The Goodreads Author Program is a completely free feature designed to help authors reach their target audience — passionate readers. This is the perfect place for new and established authors to promote their books.

Sometimes your books may appear on Goodread’s before you have an author profile. It’s very easy to fix this if it happens, you just have to confirm you are actually the author of the books and they will be added to your profile.

How Do I Join?

If you are already a Goodreads member, make sure you are signed in. If not, Sign up for an account.

Search for yourself and click on your published author name. The author name is listed below the title of your book in the search results. If you do not find your book in our database of published works, please see section below (who can join).

Clicking on your name takes you to your basic author profile page. This page has your name at the top and “author profile” to the right of your name. This page is part of our database of books and authors and is separate from your member profile page (which lists your bookshelves and friends).

Scroll down to the bottom of the page. Click “Is this you?” to send a request to join the Author Program. Please give us a few days to process your request. You will receive email confirmation when we successfully upgrade your user account to an author account. Joining the program merges your author page with your member page. The email will also contain further instructions for managing your author profile.

You can find details about the Author Program here, this gives you all the information you need about the program including:

  • Taking Control of Your Profile
  • Promoting Your Books
  • How Do I Join?

I am going to cheat a little bit here and add some slide-shows from the Goodread’s help pages, which are excellent, there’s no point in me reinventing the wheel so to speak.

Introducing the Goodreads Author Program

Your Guide to Your Author Profile and Author Dashboard on Goodreads

You can see other slideshows about Reviews, Giveaways, Groups, Advertising and some FAQ’s on the Goodread’s website. In fact there is so much information on there it will give you plenty to think about and work on.

They also have some Author Guidelines which cover how you should interact with people on the site and also guidelines about reviews.

I hope I have covered the basics you need to get your author profile set-up, I am in fact a Goodread’s Librarian so if you have any queries I can try and help you out. I am able to edit details to a certain extent on the website, so if you have a small edit you’d like to make then do drop me a message. If you want to add me as a friend on Goodread’s, you can find my profile here – http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/3586048-jo-harrison

  2. Many thanks Jo – this info is so useful. I bought Trish Nicholson’s “Inside Stories” – was delivered yesterday. I’m in the middle of reading it – fascinating! Love the analysis of her stories.
