Mind Matters

Formatted for eBook and Paperback.

The fundamental purpose of the subconscious mind is to keep you safe, and in attempting to do this it can have far more influence over the path your life takes than most people imagine.

This book describes the various ways that it can, unbeknown to you, sabotage your conscious desires, and more importantly, what you can do about.

There are essentially three ways that this ‘sabotage’ occurs:

Firstly, your subconscious is ‘programmed’ to attract you to familiar situations, and in practice this can, for example, mean that you are attracted to people with similar emotional issues to your parents. The logic behind this is simple – what you are familiar with is theoretically less of a threat than what is unfamiliar. However, it may well not be what you consciously want. Many people are consistently attracted to unsuitable partners for their whole lives without having any idea that this is a ‘program’ that they can change.

Secondly, your subconscious mind is like a self-programming computer which constantly observes your life and instals programs which it thinks will keep you safe. Phobias are a good example of this. Unfortunately it sometimes completely mis-reads situations and goes on to instal programs that are extremely unhelpful. Any behaviour which you do not consciously wish to engage in, from biting your nails to eating or drinking excessively, will be driven by your subconscious mind.

Thirdly, your subconscious mind ‘traps’ emotions which for one reason or another you have been prevented from expressing. So if you are fundamentally angry, guilty or anxious for example, at some point in your past you will have been prevented from expressing that emotion. Once the emotion becomes repressed you keep on trying to express it, but it is not released. So it becomes ‘part of you’. The truth is that you were not born like that, and the trapped emotion can be released, allowing you to become the person you would have been had the event not occurred.

To sum up, your subconscious mind is like a well-meaning friend – always trying to help, but sometimes getting it horribly wrong.

his book explains in detail how to identify and ‘un-instal’ all the faulty and unhelpful programs, and become the relaxed, happy positive person who you would and should have been in the first place.
